From Exit 55 of I-77 go east on SC 97 for 8 miles to the junction with US 21 northbound. Here turn left (north) on US 21 and go about a mile to the Fishing Creek Access boat launch area.

Canada Goose, Mallard, Lesser Scaup (w), Bufflehead (w), Red-breasted Merganser (w), Common Loon (w), Horned Grebe (w), Osprey (m), Bald Eagle, American Coot (w), Spotted Sandpiper (m), Bonaparte’s Gull (w), Ring-billed Gull (w), Caspian Tern (m), Black Tern (late summer), Cliff Swallow (s)

From Fishing Creek Access you can easily overlook a great deal of the reservoir, which is an impoundment on the Catawba River. There are often large numbers of Bonaparte’s Gulls present in winter.

A visit to Fishing Creek Reservoir is easily combined with a visit to nearby Landsford Canal State Park.

Rarities seen from Fishing Creek Access include Long-billed Murrelet.
